At a glance

The BC Liberals have won Vancouver-Langara the past three elections by wide margins. The district's current MLA, Dr. Moira Stilwell, is the minister of social development. She took the seat over from Carole Taylor in 2009.

This May, Stilwell is challenged by two-term Vancouver councillor George Chow for the BC NDP. Regan Zhang, currently doing PhD research in medical science at The University of British Columbia, is the BC Green candidate.

BC Conservative Gurjinder Bains will also be on the ballot. He is the president of security programs with Royal Canadian Security. The Platinum Party's interim leader, Espavo Sozo, is a candidate as well.

Potential issue: In 2006, Vancouver-Langara had the third highest proportion of residents with foreign credentials when ranked alongide the other B.C. districts. This can be a point of frustration as they are often not recognized by professional bodies.
