The BC NDP candidate is Sussanne Skidmore-Hewlett, a community organizer and court clerk.
Guide-outfitter and lodge owner Dan Brooks will represent for the BC Conservatives.
Colin Hamm, the BC Green candidate, is a former playground designer.
Beverly Bird is a candidate for the Advocational International Democratic Party of BC. As described by the Prince George Citizen, the party is "mysterious" and "wants to use a lottery to select MLAs and has $2.8 million in assets."
The Nechako Lakes electoral district was created in 2008. The district it replaced, Prince George-Omineca, was a BC Liberal stronghold since 1996.

Lakes loyalties: In 2006, Nechako Lakes had high rates of residents who did not move in the last five years. It also had a low rate of recent and total immigration, ranking among the lowest in the province.
Although it had one of the highest proportions in the province of aboriginal people and status Indians (the latter of which does not include Inuit or Métis) at the time, it had one of the lowest rates of visible minorities in the province. "Visible minorities" does not include aboriginal people under census guidelines.
